I found this online research tutorial from Rutgers University while reading a different blog and thought it would be of great use to all teachers! The online Research Tutorial is interactive and covers 5 basic aspects of creating a research paper 1) selecting a topic 2) finding sources 3) selecting keywords for database searches 4) identifying citations and 5) evaluating sources.
The tutorial can be viewed in any order the student selects and is interactive as students help the virutal students navigate the research process complete with multiple choice questions to check for understanding throughout. The criteria given for evaluating sources and the tour on using library data bases were especially useful along with the differences between primary, secondary and tertiary sources along with several examples of each. Using this site will definately guide the research process and hopefully allow for more robust papers and projects!

A Chameleon Sky
The sands of time are running out for the central star of this the Hourglass Nebula. With its nuclear fuel exhausted, this brief, spectacular, closing phase of a sun-like star's life occurs as its outer layers are ejected and its core becomes a cooling, fading white dwarf. In 1995, astronomers used the Hubble Space Telescope to make a series of images of planetary nebulae, including the one above. Here, delicate rings of colorful glowing gas (nitrogen-red, hydrogen-green, and oxygen-blue) outline the tenuous walls of the 'hourglass.' The unprecedented sharpness of Hubble's images revealed surprising details of the nebula ejection process and may resolve the outstanding mystery of the variety of complex shapes and symmetries of planetary nebulae.
