Servant Leadership for School Administrators and Board Members

Posted by Kris Baldwin  Published in Uncategorized

Dr. Kent Keith, author of The Case for Servant Leadership, shared that service leadership begins simply with a desire to serve.  The servant leader cares about others before him or her self.  They want those around them to grow and excel as persons. In his view, school board members are truly trustees of the public good.
The [...]

Helping Students Achieve

Posted by Kris Baldwin  Published in Uncategorized

Instead of thinking about students as being “at risk,” Dr. Kelly Duncan and Sandy Stukel shared the need to see students as being “at promise.”  Students who do not graduate are more likely to face unemployment, live in poverty, be incarcerated, have children at an early age, and experience substance abuse.
So how can we keep [...]

Science and technology, globalization, and demography are the millennial Sputnik–they are changing education today.  Today’s target is not the moon, it’s Mars. NASA Image of the Day

A Chameleon Sky

The sands of time are running out for the central star of this the Hourglass Nebula. With its nuclear fuel exhausted, this brief, spectacular, closing phase of a sun-like star's life occurs as its outer layers are ejected and its core becomes a cooling, fading white dwarf. In 1995, astronomers used the Hubble Space Telescope to make a series of images of planetary nebulae, including the one above. Here, delicate rings of colorful glowing gas (nitrogen-red, hydrogen-green, and oxygen-blue) outline the tenuous walls of the 'hourglass.' The unprecedented sharpness of Hubble's images revealed surprising details of the nebula ejection process and may resolve the outstanding mystery of the variety of complex shapes and symmetries of planetary nebulae.
